Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

At DocuClean, your privacy is our top priority. This policy explains what data we collect, how we handle your files, and what third-party services we use. We've written this in plain language because we believe you deserve to understand exactly what happens with your data.

File Processing

When you upload a PDF to DocuClean, the file is transmitted securely over HTTPS to our processing server. Your file is handled entirely in server memory (RAM) and is never written to disk, stored in a database, or backed up. The processing pipeline works as follows:

  1. Your file is received and loaded into memory.
  2. The requested operation (watermark removal, merge, split, or compress) is performed.
  3. The processed result is sent back to your browser.
  4. Both the original and processed files are immediately discarded from memory.

We do not read, analyze, log, or retain the content of your documents. We have no ability to access the text, images, or data within your PDFs. The entire process typically takes 2-10 seconds, and your data exists on our server only during that brief window.

Analytics Data

We collect anonymous usage analytics to understand how people use DocuClean and to improve the service. This includes:

  • Page visits and feature usage (which tools are used most frequently)
  • General geographic region (country/city, derived from IP address)
  • Session duration and interaction patterns
  • Browser type and device category (desktop vs mobile)

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily provide it (for example, if you contact us via email or submit feedback).

Cookies and Advertising

DocuClean uses cookies for the following purposes:

Essential cookies: A session identifier is used to track your visit for analytics purposes. This does not contain any personal information.

Advertising cookies: We display ads through Google AdSense to support the free operation of DocuClean. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your browsing history across different websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings. You can also opt out of third-party cookies by visiting aboutads.info.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data during the brief time it's on our servers:

  • All file transfers use HTTPS encryption (TLS 1.2+)
  • Server infrastructure is hosted on Fly.io with modern security practices
  • No persistent storage of user files reduces the attack surface
  • Regular security updates are applied to all dependencies

Third-Party Services

DocuClean uses the following third-party services:

  • Google AdSense - for advertising (may use cookies for ad personalization)
  • Fly.io - for server hosting and infrastructure
  • Google Fonts - for typography (Inter font family)

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you have concerns about data handling by these providers.

Children's Privacy

DocuClean is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of DocuClean after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
